Belle's Decorations by Design

The sky's the limit

Pin and Bin!

The balloons that we use at Belles Decorations by Design are made from 100% latex. Latex is extracted from rubber plants. This is a 100% natural product made from a renewable source.
Belle's Decorations by Design have started, as standard, selling our single balloons tied using raffia that has been coloured using natural dyes, unless requested otherwise. With using 100% latex balloons and these strings, we are making these bouquets 100% biodegradable. It will decompose close to the rate of an oak leaf.

We are also very excited to be looking into a balloon product that is said to decompose in a small fraction of the time, apparently as little as 6 weeks.

Our indoor garlands are tied with hemp string/twine. We are researching further to be able to use this for the outdoor ones too. This would mean that the entire installation would be 100% biodegrade.

With all of this said, we must stress the message that balloons are to be disposed of responsibly. There is no point putting these efforts in if the decorations are going to end up in the environment as litter. Never release a balloon and always either bin or compost your finished with party decorations.

Belle's Decorations by Design is a proud member of PEBA- Pro Environment Balloon Alliance.

This is an extract from their website with some information about the materials that balloons are made out of and also the importance of responsible disposal of the balloons after they have been used.

Latex Balloons and the Environment

The biodegradability of latex is being studied scientifically worldwide. Latex balloons are made from natural rubber which is a renewable resource and biodegradable, however we do not want balloons to be littering the environment.

The most important actions we can take are:

  • To support effective legislation to ban deliberate organised balloon releases
  • Educate customers and the public on the responsible use and disposal of balloons

A number of latex balloon manufacturers source the natural latex used to make their balloons from Rainforest Alliance Certified Plantations.
